Romans 12:1-2 are well known verses.  You are being made into something.  What is it?  Are we conforming to worldly patterns or are we being transformed into what God wants us to be?  There are lots of things we don’t understand and mysteries we will work on during  our life.  The more we are transformed by God, the better we will know His will and understand His ways.

Sunday’s Sermon 10-14-12 Being Transformed

Sunday’s Bulletin 10-14-12

Our relationships are the most important thing we have.  Yet, we struggle getting along, even with the ones God most wants us to get along with.  How can we learn to get along?  First we need to remember how patient God has been with us and then extend that love, grace, mercy and patience to others.  You can hear the rest below.

Sermon 10-7-12 Relationships

Bulletin 10-07-12

Worry comes so naturally to us.  So when Jesus tells us not to worry, we decide to try and obey, but it seems impossible.  Let’s consider this from this perspective.  Worry can come from many places in our life.    Often it comes when things do not go as we planned.  Jesus tells us not to worry because God wants to give us what we need.  If we can learn to trust Him we will find that our plans may not work out as we wish, but what God wants to give us is usually better than what we desire for ourselves.  When we learn to trust God, worry becomes less of an issue.

The above title is from a book I read years ago by Neil Postman.  In a way it is a good summary for the sermon Sunday.  We are an entertainment culture.  We like to be amused and entertained and it has effected the way we live our lives.  It has spiritual consequences. More of this is unpacked below in the sermon.

Sermon 9-9-12 Amusing Ourselves to Death

Bulletin  9-09-12

Sunday we talked about our frustrations.  We all experience frustration and in our frustration there is a great opportunity for Satan to be whispering things to us.  Don’t let Satan to get a toehold in your life.  Don’t let Satan win.  You can hear the rest below.

Sermon 9-2-12 Frustration

Bulletin 9-02-12

We explored the idea yesterday of taking the unseen seriously.  Have you ever considered that if you are serious about serving God that there has been a conversation among demons about how to stop you?  Scary thought I know, but maybe we should take it seriously.  The sermon yesterday also emphasized that we have an advocate with the Father who speaks on our behalf so that the accusations of the accuser are met.  Jesus is also our advocate with the father so we have two who speak and work on our behalf.  So while it should be chilling that satanic forces do conspire against us, there is a greater power that is working for us.  You can hear the rest below.

Sermon 8-26-12 Taking the Unseen Seriously

Sunday’s bulletin  8-27-12

I was good to be back yesterday and be with everyone.  I know Milton did an excellent job in my place.  Yesterday we looked at the old WWJD campaign.  WWJD I have found usually means now that I am in a situation, what is the right thing to do.  I realize that in life we have to react to situations as they come.  However we cannot live our lives only reacting to situations.  We also have to be proactive in our lives.  We need to ask ourselves WWJW.  What Would Jesus Want from me this week.  You can hear the rest below.

Sermon 8-19-12 What Does Jesus Want

Bulletin 8-12-12

Bulletin 8-19-12

Jesus asked Peter if he loved him in John 21.  Peter answered yes and the “rest is history” as we say.  Do you love Jesus?  How do you answer that question?  It determines everything.  You can hear the rest of the sermon below.

Sermon  8-5-12 Do You Love Me

Lake Travis Church of Christ bulletin 8-05-12

We looked at the struggle we have in waiting on the Lord.  I don’t like waiting and I suspect that you do not either.  Yet as Christians we are “waiters.”  What does it look like to wait on the Lord?  Is it a constant state of mental frenzy about his coming?  Maybe waiting on the Lord is more like being ready for him when he comes.  You can hear the rest below.

7-29-12 Waiting on the Lord

Lake Travis Church of Christ bulletin  7-29-12

The steadfast love of the Lord never ceases

His mercies never come to an end

They are new every morning

Great is thy faithfulness

The Lord is my portion says my soul

Therefore I will hope in him.

Lamentations 3:22-24 (RSV)

I enjoy singing this song.  It expresses hope in the Lord and the future.  “They are new every morning” is a great encouragement to me to remember that each day holds promise about what God can do in it.  Yesterday we discussed the broader context of this song.  It is from Lamentations which holds some incredibly tough things about life.  These words that are so encouraging to me were written at one of the lowest points in the life of God’s people.  They are words of affirmation, but they are not uttered lightly by Jeremiah.  He has seen the worst and even though he pours out his anger over the situation, he realizes that hope is found in the Lord.  You can hear the rest below.
